Friday Five

What I'm loving today.

1. Fall.
Yeah, still loving it.

2. Those eyes.
The feature for which Will is most complimented. They have the ability to bore holes into my soul. They own me.

3. Phonecalls with a friend.
I have a cyber-bud. We are friends who have never met. And I'm sorry if you think that's weird, but it's true. Sometimes we talk on the phone and Will is forced to entertain himself.
Yeah...

4. The Little Gym.
Will has gym class every Friday. I love circle time - sitting on the mat singing those silly songs while Will is off doing whatever the hell he wants. It has already been recommended that he repeat the course next Spring.

Skill of the day: A backwards flip.

5. He travels with pumpkins.
At his own insistence.

13 Months

Dear Will,
Your first birthday has come and gone, but you make the 26th day of every month worth celebrating. Yesterday you turned 13 months. At this age, you are so full of personality (Do I say that every month?). You laugh everytime we pretend to sneeze. When you get excited, you sit and shake your legs. You can be a bit bossy and let me know, in no uncertain terms, when you are bored and want to do something else. You've taken to biting me when you're frustrated (for some reason you never bite Daddy). When you do this, I'm supposed to tell you 'no' and act aloof for a minute (according to your doctor). But I'm not sure I quite pull it off, as you barely seem to notice my 'aloofness' before you're off doing the next thing.
Photobucket

You really enjoy being busy. Whether it's a trip to Target, or your new baby gym class, you love being out and about. You could care less about toys - your favorite activity is emptying out the bathroom cabinets. You've started to show an interest in watching TV, and especially like Yo Gabba Gabba and your Baby Einstein movie about colors.
Photobucket

You have turned into an excellent little sleeper, taking one nap a day and sleeping 12 unterrupted hours at night. If I would've known I had THAT to look forward to, I would've kept my complaining during your first year to a minimum.

I'm starting to worry you may have a serious addiction to goldfish crackers.
Photobucket

Your dad and I are pretty sure you can say 'up,' 'cat,' 'no,' and 'that.' I've been working hard to show you where your nose and belly are, but so far, you have a care factor of zero. Hopefully we'll have that mastered by high school graduation.

You will stand or take a few steps when I put you into position, but show no interest in doing these things on your own. This really shocks me, as you are such a mover, I fully expected you to walk by your first birthday. I'm not worried. I know you will walk eventually. For now you are perfectly content to grab my hand and use it to walk yourself wherever you want to go.
Photobucket

Another thing you LOVE to do is climb. You climb whatever you can, wherever you happen to be. You regulary climb into the bathtub (sometimes when the tub is still filling and you are fully clothed). You've also taken to climbing the stove to reach whatever happens to be on it. Sort of scary.

To celebrate 13 months of making your parents insanely happy, I made you (us) some Halloween cupcakes.

Notice the bottom right? The smeared frosting? That would be you, My Dear. Remember that climbing the stove thing I mentioned? Yeah, that was you. Trying to help yourself.

Photobucket

Since I'm a firm believer in the occasional treat, I let you have one. Oh my. You LOVED it.

Thank you, sweet babe o' mine, for a wonderful year and one month.

For your 13th month, we have something BIG in the making. Think cowboy hats and a three hour plane ride.

Loving you more than words can say,
Mom

PS. Like how I snuck in some pictures from yet another trip to the pumpkin patch??

Continuing my love affair with fall...

Well, not everyone's feeling the love.
Photobucket

The key to Will's happiness is to keep him busy. So this afternoon we took a trip to the local park.

And borrowed a nearby homeowner's really cool red barn.
Photobucket

On our walk around the trail, we stopped often for fall themed photo opps.

Being a model is hard work. Not to worry. For his effort, Will was treated to a stop at the playground.

A taste of Halloween

Last year...
Photobucket

And this year.
Photobucket
You may remember a previous post where I debuted Will's $2 Ebay pumpkin costume. It was ugly. Really ugly. While I tried to talk myself into it, I just couldn't follow through. I had to buy him a cuter one.

Mike's company had a Halloween party for the kiddies lastnight. We were very excited to go and meet up with our buds.

Apparently pumpkins have a sweet tooth. Who knew?

Sometimes I feel sad that Will has celebrated all his first holidays. But then, this is when the fun really begins.

Little fish

Watch out, Mike. I'm having a serious love affair with Fall.
Photobucket
Pumpkins and corn stalks and acorns, OH MY!

Yesterday Will grabbed my hand, walked me to the baby gate - and proceeded to have a complete meltdown. Dude seriously despises being cooped up in one room of our house. Taking the hint, I quickly got him ready for an outing to the indoor swimming pool.

It's the same pool we frequent during the summer, but it's now enclosed with a cover.
And can I just say?-- the fact that I get to take my little monkey swimming in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon makes me feel like the luckiest girl alive.
I. Love. This.

Going in....

And coming out.

We had tons of fun. Will splashed and kicked. He crawled in the shallow parts, and rode a noodle horseback style when the water was deep. I plan to take Will often.

It's Housewife Wednesday. So, what's for dinner? How's about a baby burrito?

Delicious.

I be photoshoppin'

I harbor not-so-secret dreams of parlaying this photography hobby of mine into a career. A career that will conveniently begin around the time Mike starts pushing me out the door to make my return to teaching. Not if I have anything to say about it.
Every proper photographer needs to have Photoshop software and, more importantly, must know how to actually use it. I'm starting cheap. Last week I ordered a used copy of Elements 7 for $25 and decided to dive right in. I'm sure, at this point, I am over-saturating and, in general, just plain-flat-out over-Photoshopping. It's a work in progress. But it helps to have the cutest of all cute models.

Fall is such a fun time of year to take pictures. With promises of sunshine and lovely colors, the outdoors begs us to be best friends. And this past weeeknd? We more than happily obliged.
Photobucket

We brought Will to his Grandma's on Saturday. Of course there were new toys waiting for him. Will is one spoiled little dude. But, OH, is he cute.
Photobucket

Photobucket

We tried a nap, but Will wasn't having it. So instead, there was a trip to the park.

My favorite picture of the day - taken by my mom! Before Photoshop....
Photobucket

And after.
Photobucket

Football Sundays are my favorite Sundays. And I mean that most sincerely. On Sundays, we huddle together downstairs. Huddle. I totally didn't mean to throw in that football reference, but will leave it because it fits. We get decked out in team gear. We eat junky food. We have games on all day and into the night. We just enjoy being together.
Of course it's even better when your team WINS!

You don't need Photoshop to crop your maniacal face out of a picture that's only worth saving because your baby looks so darn adorable.

I'm ending with a picture that doesn't seem to have a proper place. I'm not a list maker. But feeling completely overwhelmed while planning Will's birthday party, I got out my old purple notebook and made several of them.
While flipping through the pages, I came across a different list. One that feels like it was made a lifetime ago. I took this picture last month, and couldn't figure out where it belonged. Here seems just fine.Photobucket
To think this blog could've been called "And Oden Makes Three." Not really. Please note that SOME names are written in Mike's handwriting.
