Air and Space

There's a newer Smithsonian Air and Space Museum out near the Dulles Airport. While parking is $15 (!!), the museum itself is completely free.

Saturday was rather dreary and cold so we decided to check it out.

Will got to sit in a little airplane!

So air and space really isn't my thing. But Mike loved it. And Will? Well, he's just happy to be anywhere he can roam freely.

The view from the observation tower. I wish I had paid attention to what mountain range that is. Oh well.

Will is chasing a group of boy scouts in the picture on the left.

And that, along with not sleeping through Saturday night and requiring lots of naps on Sunday (for me), was how we spent our weekend.

16 Months

Hey, Will, the craziest thing happened yesterday. You turned 16 months!
Photobucket

Life with you couldn't be better. I spend the majority of my day simply trying to keep up. You don't just walk, you RUN. Everywhere. When you are finished in a room, it generally looks like a disaster. It's exhausting. But I love it.

Photobucket

While you talk a lot, it's mostly your own language so I don't always understand you. Some new words you're saying: apple, nana (banana), cracker, and you can sign 'all done.' You love to shake your finger at Ellie and tell her 'no no no,' but then you almost always give her whatever food item happens to be in your hand anyway.

You're still very funny. Lastnight, as you were shoving your hand in the litter box, I told you 'no no no,' to which you responded, 'yeah yeah yeah.' I'm 95% sure it was purely coincidence and you had no clue what you were actually saying, but I enjoyed it anyhow. And speaking of the litter box, today I found 3 large toys in there. So either you did it, or I'm very worried about our cat.

Your two great loves: balloons and blankies. Your preferred blanky is still the cloth diapers I bought to use as burp cloths when you were but a melon in my belly. It seems you always need to have one in hand when we're hanging at home.

Photobucket
Yesterday I asked where your balloon was, so you went and got it from the other room and brought it to me!

Whenever we're running errands, and you happen to see a balloon, you whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine until you get one. Sometimes I wonder if I'm causing permanent damage by not telling you a firm 'no.' But it's so much easier to just pay the 3 bucks and shop in peace. Plus, it makes you insanely happy, which, really, is the best part.

Photobucket

Getting you to eat is like a full time job. Unless it's macaroni and cheese, rice, or some other carb, you're hardly interested. Although, the other night you ate a meatball and I thought I was going to pass out.

You enjoy eating off a plate with real utensils, but occasionally you still use your hands. And when you do, it makes us laugh.

I like rice from Carrie Harmsen on Vimeo.

You love the laptop. If you catch me checking my email, you must be included. You like to watch the Sesame Street channel on You Tube and, of course, your own videos.
Photobucket

Your dad and I regularly fight about who you look like. But I can honestly say, in this picture, you look just like Daddy.
Photobucket
You can climb into this chair all by yourself! Even though I tried to trick you with an old remote, you can tell the difference and insist on playing with the real one.

On the day you turned 16 months, it snowed. We had so much fun playing today.Photobucket

Sledding with our favorite neighbor, Lindsay

You are increasingly curious about the world around you. It's so much fun to watch you grow. The fact that I get to spend every day with you is something for which I will never be able to fully express my gratitude.

We love you.

Wild weekend

Saturday nights just keep getting wilder. How did we spend the last one? We went to my mother's for dinner and stayed out past Will's bedtime. 'Cause we're crazy like that.
Photobucket

Grandma had some new toys for Will: a bowling set, a chair, and a slide.
Photobucket

Oh, and some 3d glasses. Not sure why he needs them, but they came with the chair.
Photobucket

And when she asked, Will showed Grandma his tummy. Just his way of saying 'thanks for everything.'
Photobucket

On Sunday Will and Daddy cuddled up to watch some..... football. *tear* It still stings a little.
Photobucket

The other day I showed Will an old video of himself playing in his jumper. After watching, he started smiling and jumping. So, just for fun I dragged it out from the garage. He was pretty excited and spent a good hour in it.
Photobucket

Photobucket
And I got to pretend that he was my little baby again. Win, win.

Will has some cool new tricks.

This one (which I don't even know how to describe):

A tough week

Last weekend I took Will and Ellie out for a morning walk. When we turned the corner, I looked up and saw this happening on my neighbor's roof --
Photobucket

Six vultures just hanging out.
Photobucket

After scooping Ellie up and bringing her in the house (because people love to tell me she resembles a rat), we brought out the zoom lens and took some pictures. The tag on one of the wings intrigued us enough to hop on the laptop and do some research. Yeah, we're dorks.

And as it turns out, it would be the highlight of my Sunday.
Photobucket

Later that day, my jersey was crumpled and tossed on the floor where it stayed for several days.
Photobucket
It symbolized my crushed hopes and dreams. So many questions remain, but mostly: 'How?' As in, 'How you gonna do me like that?' Really, Patriots, I want to know.

Monday started out normal enough. You know, just some bed jumping.
Photobucket

Some funny faces.
Photobucket

Some hanging out in the kitchen.

Turns out he was totally smart to reject my kiss. Because later that night, there was some, uh.... sickness. And don't even ask it, don't even think it. I'm not a character in a movie, and just because I throw up does NOT mean I'm the P-WORD.

Tuesday and Wednesday were both yucky days that had me going through the motions until naptime (for both of us). Luckily, Will has an amazing daddy who always pitches in when he's needed most.

Will: "Here, Camera. Have a toothbrush."

We love Daddy.

Today, I'm finally feeling normal again. Will and I went outside to play in the sunshine and had an awesome time. Even if it resulted in, yet another, unexpected outfit change (he was in his 4th pair of pants by lunchtime).

Will: "But, Mommy, why can't I play with trash?"

That's all for today.

Oh! One more thing...

I think she's awfully cute, even if she is rat-like.

Goodnight.

Baby boy gets a medal

We are right in the thick of it. Winter, that is. I'm longing to get OUTSIDE and enjoy the sun. Set up the inflatable pool. Take tons of flower pictures.
But it's WINTER, so as for outside, this is all I've got.
Photobucket

Mornings in our home are quite delightful and relaxing.
Photobucket Uh, yeah. Kinda like that.

I'm thankful for everyday I get to spend at home with this adorable fellow of mine. But something I really love, if I'm honest, is avoiding the morning rush out the door to get to daycare and work.
Instead we totally veg out. We take our time eating breakfast. We watch some Mickey Mouse. We delay getting dressed.
Photobucket

One of the benefits of taking our sweet time getting dressed is that I get to admire this fluffy butt for just a bit longer. Oh goodness, YES. I'm still in L-O-V-E with our cloth diapers.

Yesterday morning we went to our last gym class. Or maybe not the last. We might sign up again after all.

Will has been waking during the night. Not necessarily needing me, but waking up nonetheless. I blame the 3 (count 'em, 3!) molars coming in all at once. So he caught up a bit on sleep in the only place other than his crib where he actually will sleep: his awesome, big boy carseat.
Photobucket

I know I just posted some recent pictures from gym class.
Photobucket
But you see, I couldn't resist just a few more. Because the other day, Little Monkey got his very first medal.

And sure, everyone got one. But this mama couldn't have been any prouder.
Photobucket
Yep. I love him. Like, for real, love, love, LOVE him.

So that was our nice, little end of the week. As for our Sunday --
Photobucket

Oh, we are SOOOO ready.
Photobucket

LET'S GO PATS!!!!
