Riding out the storm

Hurricane Irene graced us with her presence this past weekend, but for us it was nothing more than a tropical storm.  We worried about our power (which, luckily, stayed on) and settled in for what was anticipated to be a long weekend spent indoors.

Will's girlfriend, Claire, is turning two in just a couple weeks - 11 days before Will.  Nadine asked me to take some family pictures, and while they were originally supposed to take place on Sunday evening, we decided to rush things and get them done before The Storm.

Lucky for us, the rain held off just long enough.

The picture on the right cracks me up.  Everytime.

Claire was amazingly cooperative and it was totally fun to photograph someone different.

By 11:00 Saturday morning, the rain was here sure and steady.

We nervously watched the tall trees in the neighbor's yard swaying in the strong wind.  But in the end, nothing happened.  Just rain.

We had a cozy family day spent inside.  It feels like it's been so long since we've had one of those.  Will built with blocks because, well, that's all Will ever wants to do lately.

Definitely his father's son.

Ellie and Chewie stayed close by.  Until it was time for poor little Ellie to brave the storm for a potty break.  She was a champ.

We awoke Sunday morning to gorgeous sunshine.  And when it's that nice outside, there's only one thing to do: go out for ice cream.

Furry Friend

I take many pictures of our furry friends (Chewie is especially photogenic), so I had a hard time selecting a photo for this week's challenge.  This particular one kept drawing me in.

The beach

Unless you live under a rock, you know that we experienced an earthquake in Virginia yesterday.  Will and I were visiting with his buddy, Cameron, and his mom at their home.  We put the boys down for a nap, each in their own room, and about 10 minutes later, everything was shaking.

Kim and I ran upstairs in what must've been record breaking speed to grab the boys, then ran outside.  I will never forget it.  The house shaking, the loud rumbling, the windows rattling, the helpless feeling of having no idea what the hell was going on, and the desperate feeling of needing to get to my baby - and fast.

In the end, our household suffered frazzled nerves, scared animals that had to be coaxed from hiding and some slanted pictures.

Why, yes, those are pictures of Will at the beach last year.  What's that?  Oh, you'd like to see pictures of Will at the beach this year?  I think I can arrange that.

Will really loved the beach this time around.
Photobucket
No, really.  He did.

A picture of two things he loved: shovels and crabs.

Will loved digging in the sand.  Especially when Daddy showed him how to dig up crabs.

But now it's time to leave our beach vacation behind us and return to a world of earthquakes and hurricanes.  Sigh.

And we're back.

As previously mentioned, we went off to the beach last week with our buddies.

Buddies who have fun toys to share.  Buddies who are fabulous at blowing bubbles.

The reason why I need a baby girl RIGHT NOW: Alyse.  She holds still while I take pictures and looks oh-so-cute in outfits her mommy makes.

We're experiencing post-vacation let down right now.  Trying to get back to a normal that doesn't include daily beach outings is definitely a bummer.  And the laundry?  Don't get me started.  But chores can wait because it's far more fun looking through the pictures of our amazing week.

Sometimes, out of no where, Will yells, 'Dance,' and he booty shakes to the music in his head.  We love it.

Mike found some bikes in the storage shed at the house.  Right away, he wanted to take Will for a ride, so off to the store we went for a bike seat and helmet.  There was only one bike that didn't have a flat tire, and after some joking about Mike riding something better suited for a child, off they went.

And when it was time to get off...

...Will didn't go without a fight.

An evening errand to the store for milk turned into an impromptu outing to the park.

Which led to ice cream (mint chocolate chip with m and ms on top for Will, who luckily for Mike and me, only wanted a couple bites)...

...and ended with the most amazing sunset I think I will ever see in this life.
