Coming out of the closet...

as a Redskins fan.  It's true.

We don't have a satellite dish, and while we came thisclose to getting one at our new house, it didn't happen.  It's a fun story that goes something like this: two hours on the phone to cancel our upcoming Comcast installation and set up new service with Direct TV.  Only to have Mike tell me two days later he changed his mind and wants Comcast, thus forcing me to make more phone calls, and wait even longer for TV and internet.  Followed by an evening of trying very hard not to punch him in the face.  But I digress.  Basically, without a satellite, the cable company decides what games we watch every Sunday.  It's hardly ever the Bills, usually the Patriots, but always the Redskins.

So every Sunday we watch the Redskins.  And we cheer for them.  And we're genuinely happy when they do well.  It's true.

But make no mistake about it, come December 11th, I'll be at Fed Ex field with my #12 jersey on.  Hopefully with my cousin Becky by my side.  Because the Pats will always come first.

Since I'm always in search of free things to do with the kiddo, I decided to take him to Redskins training camp.

Yes, he wore a Skins jersey - and he looked darn cute doing so.  Sorry, Becky.  It's true.

We talked about it for several days before we went.  Will would yell, 'Football!' and 'Touchdown!' and seemed genuinely excited.  But, really, nothing beats a 'pop pop.'

My son crossed the yellow rope and started running on to the field.  But I caught up to him and he didn't get too far.

Towards the end of practice, it started to sprinkle - just a tad.  Will was so excited to play with the 'lella.'  I was so excited to find ANYTHING that would entertain him because we had a kick-ass spot for autographs - and I didn't drive all that way for nothing.

Waiting, waiting, waiting for practice to be over.  Autographs!

So after all that waiting, only two players walked by (the rest chose not to exit by the fans).  Nooooooo autographs *sad face*

Sign your football?  Ha.  That's almost as funny as us being dead last in the power rankings. Ha?

At least Will had fun.

1) Patriots (and decent ones, not just rookies) ALWAYS sign autographs - not all of them, not always Tommy, but a good number. I know this beause I used to conveniently eat lunch there every possible day. (Groupie much?)
2) Even your child thinks less of his jersey when he attempted to wipe his food on it.
3) I now know what his birthday gift will be.

Oh NOOOOO. Even when we attend Redskins (or Nationals) events we STILL wear Steelers gear. We have similar cable issues and after a year of going to Mick's we now frequent Carlos O'Kelly's when the Steelers are not on regular TV. It's waaay cheaper than Mick's, MUCH less crowded, still has a TON of Steelers fans, and that's important when you're going to be there for 4 hours. The $1.50 PBR's and free chips and salsa are a blessing....towards the end of the day we order a dessert so we don't get thrown out.
