2012

2012 began with a lot of excitement. Having just discovered that we were expecting a little girl, we busily made plans to prepare the little rock star who would complete our family. Photobucket

While we talked. And talked. And talked with Will about the changes coming his way, there was no way to fully prepare him.  Oh, sweet boy, you had no idea.

March 2012

All we could do was soak in our time with Will as our one and only. I took him on plenty of outings. We had our last trip as a family of three to Great Wolf Lodge.

And even though we were a little nervous about it, we took Will to his first baseball game. He rocked it out. Photobucket

At last, the long awaited moment arrived.  Amelia Jane graced us with her presence on May 14th.  Tipping the scales at 8 pounds, 13 ounces with a full head of hair, it was love at first sight.

Will was in awe.  Totally proud.  Totally in love.

Life with two kids has been a wild ride.  I found the first few months to be much harder than I ever could've anticipated.  A baby that wanted to nurse constantly and never sleep.  A toddler who still very much needed his Mom.  It was a struggle that left me feeling like I was always letting someone down.

Not to mention that it was nearly impossible to leave the house.  While we made it to the Outer Banks for a week, and managed some outings here and there, I'm quite sure we spent almost every day this summer at home while I tried to figure it all out.

Amelia had a rough start.  We weren't quite sure if it was reflux, colic, a dairy intolerance.  We struggled to figure it out, but she was not a very happy girl.

However, by September, things started to get a little easier.

September 2012

Amelia continued to grow and became a much more content little person.  In fact, I would say she's one of the happiest (and cutest!) little babes ever.

In other big news from the fall, Will turned three.  He is a total threenager.  Opinionated, stubborn, and without a doubt, the funniest person I have ever met.  For instance, a recent conversation --

Will: Where 'Melia's penis?
Me: She doesn't have one.  Remember?
Will: But her have one yesterday.

In other big kid news, he started school and gave diapers the heave-ho (yay!).

The fall months passed much like the rest of the year, a bit too fast for my taste.  Baby Amelia is on her way to crawling, can push herself up from laying down to fully sitting up, and after a 5 month hiatus, is back on her way to sleeping through the night (I think).

In just 4 and a half months, we'll be celebrating one year of Amelia.  Unbelievable.

November 2012

A trip to Disney World and a merry Christmas finished off our year in a big way.

2012 was very good to us, and we anticipate a new year of even more excitement to come.  A new home, and happy kids that will continue to grow and make their parents insanely proud.

Christmas 2012

RSV, ear infections, sinus infections (for Mike and myself). We have been ravaged. Somehow, in the middle of it all, we managed to have a merry Christmas.

Will slept in quite late on both Christmas Eve and Christmas mornings. It felt a little weird and unnatural, but we let him be since he was feeling so lousy.

A hot chocolate smile on Christmas Eve.

Since everyone seemed to be in good spirits, we ventured out of the house for a Christmas Eve outing to Grandma's.  Besides the doctor's office, it's pretty much the only place we've been in the last two weeks.

I love this picture so much.  I'm basically obsessed.

However, things went downhill from there.  Will was majorly grumpy.  He gets a pass because double ear infections and probable strep (throat was red, but the doc didn't bother swabbing him since he'd be on meds regardless) are not very pleasant, to say the least.  But, still.  His poor mood bummed me out.
IMG_8228_zps021f5708

By 4:00, he was practically begging us to let him take a nap.  I was hesitant since it was already so late in the afternoon, but we let him rest for about an hour.  This would prove to be a terrible decision that resulted in him being awake until 11 pm.  Oy.

A first Christmas in the Harmsen household isn't complete without the obligatory sad Santa pic.  Or, very-sleepy-in-need-of-her-bed Santa, as the case may be.

Forgot the carrots, so the reindeer had to eat lettuce.  Oops.

So after all the build-up and anticipation, we had some drama on Christmas Eve as Will was being tucked in.  Not just because he'd stay awake for an extra two hours fighting sleep.  But because he was terrified of Santa coming to our house.  In fact, I had to tell him several times that I'd tell Santa to skip us.

Santa came anyway.  Although, between Disney World and a new house, Santa was on a budget this year.  Sorry, Kids!

Will slept until about 10 AM on Christmas morning.  In fact, that's when Amelia woke up from her morning nap, so they both got to come down stairs together.

Will was definitely feeling better on Christmas.  Thank goodness.  And he seemed to forget all about his Santa fears from the previous night.

Will picked out these toy balls for Amelia and Mike helped him wrap them.  He was so excited to give them to her.  And she loved them.

Bah Humbug.

2: The number of trips I took to the pediatrician's office today. Also, the number of ear infections Will has. Also, the number of adults it apparently takes to administer antibiotics to Will.

0: The number of Christmas gifts I have wrapped.

18: The number of crappy sugar cookies Will and I managed to bake a few days ago.

3: The number of days until Christmas! IMG_8183-2_zps6b43c0f6
At least Amelia is on the mend!

My holiday spirit, in a nut shell.

Sick.

It was an ordinary Friday.

 Amelia turned 7 months. IMG_8121_zps5e97cf75

Will played 'Number 4.' And by 'played,' I mean he slid all the pieces in while saying, "I going to block you." When it comes to board games, we're getting there. IMG_8130_zps5c0558ef

"Here, 'Melia, you can play, too."   IMG_8140_zpsc393f818

But breakfast and playtime aside, we all know that it was not an ordinary Friday.  Not even close.

Words cannot adequately express the sadness.  Or how lucky I feel to have these two monkeys.
IMG_8146_zps4910aeef

Then, overnight, Amelia got sick.  I don't get to wear my doctor hat often, but after Amelia barked like a seal, I knew something was wrong.  I brought her to the pediatrician and was told she most likely had a virus that would run its course.  She has been miserable.
IMG_8153_zps1b36b92b

Since Amelia has to stay in, that means Will does too.  He's been slightly cooped up.

"Look, Mommy, I kinda like a ghost!"
IMG_8155_zps60773ce2

"Read this to me, Mommy!"
IMG_8166_zps0315fa91

Last night, after her fever hit 102, I brought Amelia to an urgent care center.  She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and placed on antibiotics.  Then we followed up at the pediatrician's today and got a real diagnosis.

Would you believe me if I told you this girl was diagnosed with RSV this afternoon?
IMG_8171_zps8e914b54

We were sent home with a nebulizer and are doing treatments at home.
IMG_8173_zpsc474604f

And hoping, hoping, hoping she feels better soon.  At least in time for Christmas.  I mean, can you imagine??
