When they are teenagers, I will wake them up at 4 AM.

We've been rather sleep deprived around here. The last three mornings, Will decided to begin his days at 4, 6, and 5 respectively.  Apparently, Amelia thinks her brother's plan to drive me insane is brilliant and has joined in the fun.

On Saturday morning, I loaded up the kids and grocery shopped at 6:30 AM.  Before Saturday morning, I didn't even know stores were open at that ungodly hour.  IMG_3351
Hey, Kids, this is a bed. It's for sleeping. Give it a try sometime.

In a desperate attempt to get Amelia to take a nap at my mom's house, I made a quick trip to Babies R Us for a portable swing.  It didn't work.
Nice try, Mom.

We've been plenty busy filling our long (OH, so long) days with lots of fun.

Paging Dr. Will...

He LOVES being Dr. Will. Everyone and everything gets check ups - most recently his lawn mower. DRWILL

Meanwhile, Amelia is content to sit around looking cute. IMG_3393

So, so cute. AMELIA4 IMG_3368

To accommodate Amelia's nasty reflux, I've reduced my dairy intake. Definitely a bummer since summer equals ice cream (at least, for me it does). Good thing one of us gets to enjoy it. IMG_3386 ICECREAM

Mike and Amelia spent some time catching up on current events (or just the sales at Best Buy)... IMG_3418

And we're finding ways to beat the summer heat.

Me: Hey, Will, want to play in your Spongebob sprinkler?
Will: Yeah!
Me: Ok, let's get ready.
*We put on his swimsuit and sunblock. We turn on the sprinkler. Will runs through it once while I take a picture.*
Will: *in extremely annoying whiney voice* I don't want to get wet! IMG_3373

At least he likes the pool (most of the time). IMG_3404

To round out our week of activities, Amelia continued to look cute while doing her least favorite thing (second to sleeping) -- tummy time!

A Will post

will2 Today is the 26th, which means Will is two short months away from his 3rd birthday. I can't believe it.  Although, Will has claimed to be three years old since last December.

In honor of this momentous occasion (and in light of the fact that my camera was left behind at my mom's), I thought I'd take the time to record some funny toddler talk that has taken place in recent months. June2012004

While reading stories in his bed one night, I asked Will if he had any secrets he'd like to share. He whispered, "I like beer."

The other day I walked into the bathroom to find Will with a lathered bar of soap in his hands.  He had rubbed it all over his arms, the vanity, and Amelia's baby tub.  "Look, Mommy!" he yelled.  "That like sunblock!"  He was only alone for two minutes.

After watching the Ikea commercial about the dream bedrooms one day, I asked Mike if men really dream about eating sandwiches in bed. Will, after overhearing this exchange, has repeatedly asked to eat sandwiches in his bed. At a play date last week, he said he wanted to "eat a sammich in Cam's bed."

And speaking of dreams, every morning Will and I have the same conversation --
Me: What did you dream about last night?
Will: Owls!
Me: Owls?! What color were they?
Will: Pink!

Lately, when asked not to do something, Will's response is, "But I have to." For instance--
Me: Will, please stop squirting me.
Will: But I have to. Mommy likes it.

Me: *placing Will's dinner plate on the table in front of him*
Will: Thanks, Baby.

Will: What's that?
Me: Oh, that? Um... A breast pump.
Will: I want it.
Me: Well, that's Mommy's.
Will: I want my own one.
Me: Ok. Ask your father when he gets home.
Will: I want a Buzz Lightyear breast pump.

Mike: Will, what do you want to do this weekend?
Will: Play downstairs.
Mike: Ok, we can do that.  Is there anything you want to do outside of the house?
Will: Get gas!   IMG_2811

Just a snapshot, as funny stuff happens here on the regular.  Minus the no naps, inability to get along with peers, and occasional melt-downs, this is such a great age.

I think I blinked...

And just like that Amelia was two months old.  IMG_3262

I truly love this age. I love the way she kicks her little legs and makes jerky movements with her arms.  I love all the sweet smiles and coos.  I love how content she is to just sit and observe.

Checking out her friend, the ceiling fan.

At two months old, Amelia:

  • sleeps through the night (and, yes, she's still in our room)
  • mostly catnaps, but usually takes one decent nap in the afternoons
  • will turn her head to track our movements
  • holds her head up like a boss
  • likes to be held by her daddy
  • hates tummy time
  • has made it clear in no uncertain terms that she's not interested in a bottle
  • is moving on into size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothing

While I often feel like life is a constant juggling act between the two kids, and at times things can seem so very hard, I'm doing the best I can to soak in her adorable babyness. After all, she's the last one I'm ever going to have. IMG_3308amelia2

At Amelia's two month appointment, she weighed in at 12 pounds, 13 ounces (97th %tile!). Her rolls are still delicious.

We continue to administer Prevacid for her reflux. Sometimes, instead of swallowing it, she likes to spit it out, and we're all reminded a few hours later that she REALLY needs it.
Will was just a little excited to watch Amelia get her shots.  Just a little.

Her list of 'likes' is growing.  She's suddenly become a good little car rider and seems to have greater toleration for evening walks in the stroller.

Giving Amelia a bath is a lot of fun lately.  She really enjoys the warm water and loves to kick.

Amelia is such a love bug.  I'm so glad she's mine.

OBX 2012

We left for our vacation on July 8th feeling excited, but mostly nervous about how the week would go. We worried about long miserable car rides, but to our surprise, they were pretty perfect. We worried about kids that wouldn't sleep through the night, but they both did (every night - even the 8 week old!). We worried about having a fussy baby, but she was pretty happy.

I think the only thing we didn't worry about was rain. However... IMG_2632

After two perfect summers in the Outer Banks, it rained. The weather forecast for the week looked pretty bleak. IMG_2633
Will asked Mike if we could drive over the 'fancy bridge.'

By Wednesday morning it was sunny with a side of haze and humidity.  In other words, the perfect morning for a trip to Duck Donuts - a MUST if you're ever in the area.IMG_2801

"No more pictures, Mommy." A phrase I heard plenty on this trip. IMG_2814

Luckily this little one doesn't seem to mind having her picture taken. IMG_2791

We managed to eat lunch out (at actual restaurants) on three different occasions. We may or may not have bribed Will with new toys in exchange for good behavior.

Of course ice cream on any outing is a must. beach3
Seriously, Will eats, like, one bite before he's all done. I'm starting to question his maternity.

By far, Will's favorite adventure was this one--

Race cars!

And I'm pretty sure he really thought he was driving. IMG_3137
The boy loves fast cars, so his paternity is definitely not in question.

A quick trip to Jeanette's Pier.

We were lucky enough to have fun friends to vacation with.
Will and Calder share a laugh.

Tessa was pretty excited to take a picture holding Amelia... IMG_2788
Until Amelia screamed her head off.

We spent plenty of time in the beach house pool.  On a couple of occasions, Will actually swam by himself while Mike and I looked on from the deck chairs.  Such a big boy.July2012015
And this was pretty much the only picture he let me take of him swimming.

A certain baby girl had her first swim in the pool. IMG_2485 IMG_2479

But the main attraction was, of course, the beach. IMG_2772

Mike and Will went alone, for the most part, since it was too hot for Amelia, but she and I managed to join them a few times. IMG_2754-2

Amelia's turn: IMG_3189

He also loved getting buried in the sand.

Amelia did not love her new sun hat. IMG_2764

We realized that the best time for all of us to go to the beach was later in the day. So we packed a dinner picnic, loaded up babies and beach gear, and spent our evenings there. It absolutely made my vacation. beach4 July2012107-2

And a whole lotta pictures... beach6 beach7 beach2

It's always a let down coming home from our vacation to the OBX.  Each year with Will just gets better and better.

Having a new little one just sweetens the deal.  I hope she loves the beach as much as her brother does. July2012256

Until next year... July2012235
