9 months old

I'm not quite sure what's happening here. Seriously. I had my baby last month and she's already 9 months old.

Well, maybe she's been around a little longer than that. But, really? 9 months? Already??!? photo IMG_9028-3_zpsbc0a5ef4.jpg

Amelia is quite the talented young lady. She has learned to wave 'bye bye' and when we ask, "How big is Amelia????" she responds by raising her arms as we say, "Soooooo big." Little genius. photo IMG_9036-2_zps69a3bb3a.jpg

A few nights ago she stood for 10 seconds all by her lonesome.  Will walking happen soon?  Stay tuned.

Amelia and Will continue to be pretty good buds.  And she can really hold her own with him.  At one point in time she was cool with Will taking toys from her.  But now?  Take something away and she's ready to throw down.  For real.  We can't even trick her by offering her a trade.  She wants what she wants.
 photo February2013012-2_zpsff33e856.jpg
For instance, she wants this shaker.  Like, she wants it at ALL times.  No taking the shaker allowed.

*Momentary break in post*  Oh my.  This picture cracks me up.
 photo February2013016-2_zps137377c2.jpg
I mean, WHAT is going on here??  Bahahahaha.

They really are good friends.  I love how much they love each other.

My little chunker baby is now my little peanut baby.  At her 9 month visit, she only weighed 17 pounds, 7 ounces.  To put this in perspective, at the same age, Will was almost 4 pounds heavier - and he started out at half her size.

The weird thing is, at any given meal, she eats more than her 3 year old brother.  She eats anything and everything we put in front of her.
 photo IMG_9346_zpse503c51d.jpg

Also, she may be the most photogenic baby ever.  She loves having her picture taken.

Oh, little peanut. We love you so. Please stay little for just a bit longer. Please?

Valentine's Day 2013

Sooooooo, Valentine's Day.... photo IMG_9236_zps8868449d.jpg

Were you feeling the love? photo IMG_9202_zpsade8ae41.jpg

Will was "so ess-cited to deliver chocolates" to his teachers.  He paused to tell everyone in the parking lot, "Happy Valentimes Day!"

While he was at school having a 'great day,' the littlest Valentine and I spent some quality time together.

After school, we met Mike for lunch at our favorite Japanese steak house.  It's never easy going out with two littles, which is probably why we almost never do it.  However, I discovered that giving the baby her first lollipop and encouraging Will to eat as much Valentine's candy as his sugar-loving heart desired was very helpful.  Also, it ensured that Will would be too full to finish his fried rice which meant more for me.  I win at motherhood.

Later, we returned home to find a special package from Will's favorite aunt on our doorstep.
 photo IMG_9232_zps05ffa605.jpg

Will was very excited to find more chocolate.  Amelia was also excited as she would shove a piece in her mouth - foil and all.  She was none too pleased when I fished it out.

And I have to ask --  Aunt Becky, markers for the window?  Really?  Is this pay back for the time Will crapped in your bed?

Friday was Ellie's birthday.  For those not keeping score, Ellie is our dog.  I have to say, I'm not always feeling the love where she's concerned.  In fact, I kind of want to go back in time and talk myself out of getting her.  Like, on Valentine's Day, when she got out of the yard, and I was frantically running down our street calling her name, I thought to myself, "Get back in the house.  This is your out."  Kidding.  Kind of.

Nonetheless, Ellie turned 8 and we had ourselves a Cars party (at Will's insistence).

Oh, cute kids in party hats.  I love it.

And, Amelia...  getting ready to make a play for the cat food.  I see you.

Life, lately.

We've been preparing for Valentine's Day and Will is "so ess-cited!" This is the first year for exchanging cards with friends at school and he picked out the perfect ones- Cars themed with little lollipops. Side note: he finally started saying Lightning McQueen instead of Li-queen and I'm a little sad about this.

Last week we made a special Valentine's treat during Amelia's nap. photo IMG_9040_zps6dd50d46.jpg

His favorite part was, of course, the icing. That's pretty much the only part of a cupcake he eats. photo IMG_9055_zpscacb6a6d.jpg

Last Friday I packed up the kids and took them-- are you ready for this?

Swimming!
 photo IMG_9067_zps855e9b97.jpg

Amelia was pretty 'ess-cited' about the whole thing.
 photo IMG_9081_zps2f07b3f5.jpg

Will still likes his floaties, but I'm going on record here...  this will be the year he learns to swim for real.  I absolutely believe it.
 photo IMG_9086_zps99c54d60.jpg

Then, when we were getting dressed, Will insisted on getting his own dressing room because "this is my privacies."  And I laughed a lot.
 photo IMG_9092_zpsff875897.jpg

Let's caption these next two pictures "Determined."
 photo IMG_9098_zps20c67b1e.jpg photo IMG_9116_zps4259b5bf.jpg
And as for Amelia, she'll be walking before her first birthday.  Guaranteed.

We enjoyed a little weekend wrestling.
 photo IMG_9122_zpsc6257a25.jpg

And it's hair pulling for the win!  Her signature move.
 photo IMG_9133_zps08fbbc36.jpg

Last Sunday we explored one of the trails in our neighborhood and threw some rocks in the creek.
 photo IMG_9141_zps2937df18.jpg
Psst, Mike.  There's a branch in front of my face.

Amelia has turned in to a bit of a 'hold me' baby.  It's sweet, but also, kind of a pain.  And she's very good at (fake) crying until she gets what she wants.
 photo IMG_9144_zpsb9e819ea.jpg photo IMG_9150_zps6aef4193.jpg

Will says, "Melia sure is loud."

All of his observations include the phrase "sure is."  Sure is loud in here.  Sure is dark down there.  Sure is raining out there.  Sure is spooky in here.

It sure is cute.
 photo IMG_9154_zps72663305.jpg

Yesterday Amelia was all, "What's that noise?"
 photo IMG_9161_zps372f5640.jpg

When she realized it was Will hanging out under her bed, she had to check it out.
 photo IMG_9164_zps5701fb65.jpg photo IMG_9165_zpscbb5dbd3.jpg

So funny.
 photo IMG_9168_zps1008394a.jpg

And so a game of crawling-under-the-bed-and-crawling-back-out-again started and continued for a solid 30 minutes.
 photo IMG_9180_zps1e051822.jpg photo IMG_9181_zps68272570.jpg

Until it was time to take a standing break.  Loves. To. Stand.
 photo IMG_9186_zps311149fe.jpg

And what began as a sibling hug quickly turned in to Will picking up the baby and bringing her to me.  He REALLY likes to carry her around lately.  Oy.

Not much going on.

The other day I took advantage of Amelia's nap time and, with Will playing quietly (too quietly) near by, I got some unpacking done. Then suddenly I heard a little voice say, "I'm ready!"

I looked up to see Will in the doorway.  Standing there naked except for his shirt hanging around his head. photo IMG_8893_zps6a4d932d.jpg

Me: Uh... I'm afraid to ask, but what exactly are you ready for?
Will: I'm ready for bed!

Ohhhhhh-kay. If only that were true. I so miss nap time. When the baby's awake it's impossible to get anything done. Whenever I try, I feel a little tug on my yoga pants (you know, 'cause I do a lot of yoga), and look down to see this... photo IMG_8901_zps7caffaf3.jpg

Little monkeys.
 photo IMG_8925_zpsb46dc005.jpg

My first project, other than unpacking, has been Will's room.  A firetruck makeover is in full swing.
 photo IMG_8928_zpse01aba14.jpg

His firetruck bedding arrived a few days ago.  "It looks wonderful!" he exclaimed.
 photo IMG_8936_zps38c17874.jpg

A conversation Will and I had yesterday--

Will: Sometimes I don't like my bed.
Me: Why not?
Will: Because I don't like firetrucks.

Well, that's good to know.
 photo IMG_8939_zpsdb716ff1.jpg

Will was very excited to show his sister his new bed when she woke up from her nap.
 photo IMG_8972_zpsc0f78391.jpg photo IMG_8975-2_zpsce3a76a2.jpg

In other news, we have a Wegman's five minutes away.  They have the most amazing $3 slices of cake that Will and I just adore.  Last week he got a Spiderman cake.  Unfortunately for him, there was only one lonely slice in the case last weekend.

Finn from Glee.
 photo IMG_8983_zps79a7ac27.jpg

I laughed forever about it.  But Will didn't care.  Cake is cake.
 photo IMG_8987_zps126ff678.jpg

I guess the Super Bowl was last Sunday...?  Yeah, I had a care factor of zero on account of the Patriots coming thisclose to being in it.  Mike insisted on Super Bowl -type foods, but I had to clarify several times that we were not actually celebrating the game.

Will likes to set the table.
 photo IMG_8993_zps4a9894e2.jpg

I made the most AMAZING pulled pork.  Oh my goodness.  It's actually my mom's recipe and it's so easy, even I can do it.  Rub down the meat (use a pork rub or whatever spices you have laying around), sear it (on the stove top or outside grill), put it in a crockpot with a bottle of Italian dressing, and cook (9ish hours on high, 13ish hours on low).  Sooooooooooo delish.
 photo IMG_9000_zpse88219e4.jpg

Although, I think Will's favorite part was Mike's cheese dip.
 photo IMG_9003_zps80d54a1f.jpg

On the subject of eating, Amelia is a huge fan.  Huge.
 photo IMG_9011_zpscdec989c.jpg photo IMG_9009_zps608f693b.jpg

Such messy eaters.  Good thing they like their baths.
